EMT Job Description

Job Overview

Here at Missouri Valley Fire & Rescue, we are a busy combination fire and rescue department. We're now hiring seasoned EMT’s to augment and cover the daytime hours when most of our volunteer members are out of town at their own places of employment.


Hourly pay based on experience.

Responsibilities for EMT

Examine and evaluate patients to determine necessary care

Provide patients with emergency care by utilizing appropriate techniques and equipment

Document patient information, condition, and treatment

Maintain patient confidentiality and perform all care with respect for patient rights

Transport patients in accordance with outlined policies and procedures

Maintain a safe, clean, and well-stocked environment for patients

Operate and drive ambulance in conjunction with applicable safety policies and laws

Provide basic life support and gather patient data

Respond to fire calls as a medical standby and provide rehab for the firefighters

Perform periodic equipment checks on all MVFD apparatus

Clean and maintain all MVFD grounds and equipment as assigned

Perform custodial duties within the fire department areas as assigned

Qualifications for EMT

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required

Shall possess and maintain EMT certification/license in the state of Iowa

Current American Heart Association BLS Provider CPR certification

Shall possess and maintain a valid driver's license

1 year of experience in an emergency care setting preferred

Experience in Fireground/firefighting operations preferred

Ability to bend, pull, push, and lift up to and in excess of 25 pounds often.

Ability to bend, pull, push, and lift up to and in excess of 50 pounds often.

Ability to bend, pull, push, and lift up to and in excess of 100 pounds often.

Ability to bend, pull, push, and lift as a team up to and in excess of 150 pounds frequently.

Ability to follow oral and written instructions/orders from Officers of the Department

Demonstrated ability to implement clinical care in accordance with outlined policies and procedures

Ability to exercise sound judgment while working in a stressful environment

Ability to work as a member of a team.

Working Conditions

Response area is the Missouri Valley Fire and Rescue district as well as response for Mutual Aid as required. Calls of service may happen in and during all types of weather, locations, and hazards.
